Celebrating the launch of his book Hicky’s Bengal Gazette: The Untold Story of India’s First Newspaper, author Andrew Otis will be in conversation with Sunil Sethi, noted journalist and columnist at the 10th edition of ‘Talking Books’on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 6:30 pm at Café Turtle, Khan Market, New Delhi.
The book is an essential and compelling addition to the history of sub-continental journalism. Join us as Andrew and Sunil delve deep into the story of India's first newspaper and how Hicky came up against the corrupt authorities determined to stop him and of his resourcefulness.
About Andrew Otis:
Andrew is a PhD student at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism. He was a Fulbright-Fellow to India in 2013 to 2014, and lived in Kolkata while researching journalism in early India. His work has been profiled in both The Telegraph and the Business Economics Magazine.
He was also a 2011 Joseph P. O’ Hern Scholar, and researched early British colonial newspapers in London. He holds a BA in History from the University of Rochester, and has a background in journalism, having interned with National Public Radio—the U.S. government’s popular public radio network.
