Aari embroidery is exquisite needlework of repeated chain stitch work, worked in multi-colored silk on a satin or cotton ground, is timeless craftsmanship of 12th century India. Flourishing in the states of Gujarat and Sindh under the patronage of the Mughal court, it is a series of unbroken stitches that take the shape of abstract nature and wildlife motifs. The special 'Aar' holed needle which is used to create these stitches, gave the name of what is known as "Aari Embroidery".
Participants would learn a traditional art form of India and the skill learned can also be applied in their daily stitching activities. This workshop will help them learn different nuances and delicacies in the art of embroidery.
