Mission

SBT provides a sensitive and caring environment for street and working children, and those in difficult circumstances. It seeks to provide a platform for children to realize their full potential, their right to a safe and secure space, education, and health and nutrition.

Vision

To create a nurturing environment that can foster physical and mental growth of street and working children in difficult circumstances. To allow them to experience their childhood and make their dreams into reality!

Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT) started out as a day care centre for street children. Over a period of time, we realised that a safe space is the most critical need for any child to realise his/her own full potential. Thus, we started residential programmes to provide safe child friendly shelter for children rescued from street situations and any other distress situations. Compliant with guidelines of Integrated Child Protection Scheme and Juvenile Justice Act 2015, we have two Children Home for Girls, two Children's Home for Boys and three Open Shelters for boys to provide 24/7 care and protection services.

Volunteering at Salaam Balak Trust

Volunteering at Salaam Baalak Trust can be a life-changing experience. Our volunteers come from all over the world and have contributed in creative ways to impact the lives of the children we work with, from teaching English to starting Hip-Hop classes with a group of our boys.

Here, at Salaam Baalak Trust, we appreciate that the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of volunteers can be of enormous benefit to our children and our staff. What's more, we know that as a volunteer here, you will learn a lot too - not only about yourself, but also about the Indian culture and the people and issues that we work with every day.

Salaam City Walk Program -

The Salaam Baalak Trust City Walk is an English guided tour of almost 2 hours conducted by children who used to live in the streets of Delhi before joining our Trust. Our guides are adolescents who have been fully trained as local guides and who want to improve their communication and speaking skills. City Walk gets the children's stories heard, gives people a view of their world through their eyes. Those who take the City Walk tour through the streets of inner city of Paharganj and the area around New Delhi railway station, led by a child who was once living and working on the streets will experience special tour far from the tourist main attractions. City Walk is an example of how a volunteer's creativity can translate into a unique and enduring programme, which is both popular and economically viable. Over the last seven years, thousands have taken the Walk and empowered a number of children, helping them to join mainstream life.
