What is 'Not Your Average Poetry Workshop'?

Not Your Average Poetry Workshop is a series of fresh and fun sessions and workshops related to poetry that take place regularly at one of the most exciting venues in town, Fandom by Gilly's Redefined.
 
 
What is this event all about?
 
In September, we shall have an immersive workshop on poetry writing and performance!
 
- Understand haikus and write a few of your own
 
The workshop will start with an introduction about the haiku. This will be followed by two hands-on and fun exercises which will stress on observation and imagination and eventually guide you into writing two of your own.
 
- Learn how to perform your piece
 
Learn devised theater techniques and awaken the actor in you. This part will help you interpret your poems and device a collaborative performance. The instruction will include elements of costume, performance and aesthetics.
 
 
Who are the facilitators?
 
Nithya Rao is a rehabilitation psychologist multi-skilled in expression, coaching, entrepreneurship, event management, empathy and innovation. With a Master's degree focused on psycho-rehabilitation from The Richmond Fellowship Society, her work revolves around creating spaces for authentic living, inside and outside of oneself. She has built a fellowship for entrepreneurs in social impact space, a theater production house called Katharsis, a performance space called Lahe Lahe and her own therapy practice called Heart It Out.
 
Samantak Bhadra's poems and reviews have been published in 8 countries and across 25 publications including Rain Taxi, The Missing Slate, 40 Under 40, Recours au Poème, Knot Magazine and Taj Mahal Review. He has co-founded and co-hosted Let Poetry Be since 2014, a monthly poetry open mic in Atta Galatta, Bangalore. He also founded a poetry project in 2015, called The Sound Of Poetry, in Pune. Currently based out of Bangalore, the project conducts poetry open mics, creates awareness about Indian English poetry and curates poetry workshops.
 
 
Is the event ticketed?
 
Yes. The cost of participation is Rs 300 + Rs 200 cover charge (to be paid at the venue).
