A writing-interest community conducted a Writing Curiosity Survey in July 2019. There were three main reasons why non-writers and newbie writers, a huge majority of respondents, weren't able to start or sustain their writing endeavours (not in any particular order):
- Self-doubt
- Lack of time
- Distractions and not prioritizing writing...
...in spite of having many legitimate reasons to writing, like (again, not in any particular order):
- Passion to write a book
- The faith they can write well
- Benefits in career
- Self-expression
Hence, this workshop is a combined effort by The Folded Paper and Cross Skills to introduce more writing skills while indulging in the pleasures of self-expression - all in an open, positive, encouraging, and inquisitive setup. This three-hour writing initiation workshop will have tried-and-tested activities and theories from The Folded Papers bi-weekly meetings.
Goals of the workshop:
- Break myths and perceive writing in a positive light through fun, insightful, and informative activities.
- Rediscover and establish writings benefits and make self-expression through writing a way of life.
- Introduce the basics of storytelling to make us better storytellers in life and at work.
- Leverage the power of small habit changes that let our creative selves flourish, like - the power of observation, creating time, and more.
You should register if you identify yourself with any of these:
- You wish to write, but dont have the guidance and the motivation
- You cant take out time from your hectic schedule
- You have some big plans to write a book, but dont know where to start
- Would like to lay your hands on writing as a new hobby
- Your work demands writing, but it makes you flinch with fear
Writing requires a mind that thinks, a heart that lets the mind think, and a hand that gets the thoughts to the physical form of words. We need no prior experience, just an open and inquisitive mind.
