An art that once flourished during the glory days of the Indian culture, the art of Urdu Calligraphy - called Kitabat - is dying a silent death in the hands of the modern day digital printing. Vajor takes pride in curating experiences that revive the age-old art forms and bring them to relevance in contemporary times. This Vajor Artistry workshop is about living an evening of Urdu! An evening of crafting your own bamboo pens before a hands-on experience of traditional Urdu calligraphy on paper, a dreamy storytelling session on the famous poetess Amrita Pritam through the words of a renowned storytelling artist and to ‘wine & unwind’ on a musical note, listening to sufi ghazals.
Flow of the event:
3:30 pm: The session starts with an introduction to the script & its usage in the contemporary world. A live demo of writing in the script followed by a guided calligraphy session demonstrating from crafting your own bamboo qalam to putting the art on paper. Material will be provided by us. Note: Prior experience in calligraphy or familiarity with the script is not necessary for the workshop.
5:00 pm: The modern revival of the lost art of Urdu storytelling performed by Shiraz Hussain from the famous ‘Khwaab Tanha collective’. Listen to stories on the famous poetess Amrita Pritam in a dreamy bohemian setting.
