The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary located on western tip of the Island of Chorao along the river Mandovi, Goa, in India. The size of the sanctuary is 1.78 sq. km. The area is covered with a thick layer of mangrove forests where one can find many different kinds of birds and animals, including species such as the mudskipper and the black drongo.
The sanctuary is named after Dr. Salim Ali, an Indian ornithologist. Known as the "birdman of India", Salim Ali was among the first Indians to conduct systematic bird surveys across India and his bird books helped develop ornithology. He was awarded India's second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan in 1976.
