Kolkata International Women?s Club was founded in 2002 by a group of foreign women living in Kolkata.
It has a constitution and a bank account. We have a committee consisting of: President; Vice President; Treasurer; Secretary; Activities; Newsletter and Charities. We are in the process of pursuing formal registration as a not-for-profit organisation. We are not-for-profit, non-sectarian and non-political.
The aims of the club are: To provide working and non-working foreign passport holding women in Kolkata with information practical and moral support and opportunities for social intermingling. To foster friendship and understanding between ourselves and the local community. To contribute in a charitable way to any needy cause agreed upon by the members.
We achieve our aims by: Monthly meeting with speakers (topics include the local and national culture) Social events open to members and non members (many to raise money for charity e.g. Easter Party) Trips and visits to cultural places. Recent trips include - Shantiniketan, the Marble Palace and a walking tour of old Calcutta Newsletter for members and new arrivals Email group for sharing information and requests for information Annual Monsoon Ball, the main fundraising event of the year (over RS30000 raised in 2010) Committee members visiting charities to ascertain creditability and ability to use donated money effectively and matching against our selection criteria
