Just ahead of the Calangute –Baga stretch of north Goa lies a beach that allures you with beautiful sunsets, pleasant crowds, great food and music and a culture that has seen an interesting transition over the past few decades. Despite the growing popularity of other commercial zones in Goa, Anjuna remains one of the most famous beaches of Goa.
Once known for its hippie culture, Anjuna Beach is to the south of the Anjuna village with its usual lot of restaurants and bars. Although it is not known as the most beautiful beach you can see in Goa, many tourists still land up at Anjuna for the famous Curlies beach restaurant.
Anjuna is quite simply the most popular beach in Goa. The beach isexcellent with coconut palms and soft white sand better than most of Goa's beaches. Unsupervised swimming in the sea on the Anjuna beach is not advisable. It has forceful undercurrents which can be fatal.
Anjuna is also famous for its Wednesday Flea market. People from all over come here on Wednesdays and you can shop and bargain for items ranging from clothes to hats to jewelry to bikes to souvenirs. Eating and drinking in Anjuna is pretty good though you won't find beach shacks like the ones in Calangute. The food here specialises in fish like elsewhere in Goa and western food.
